In the Summer when the sun is high in the sky and it feels hot, I wish for the Winter.  In the Winter when the sun is low in the sky and it feels cold, I wish for the Summer.  I should just appreciate what I have right now.

There is snow on the ground.  It covers the roads and paths.  But snow on the ground is a good thing.  

For one thing, snow is water and we need water.  In a dry climate like New Mexico, the water we get is very important.  Plants and animals must take advantage of the rain when it comes.  People also need that water for agriculture and industry.

Snow on the ground is also a good thing because it is beautiful.  Walking in the foothills, I see the world has been transformed by the snow.  The beauty of Winter is a special kind of beauty which is different from Summer’s beauty.

There is cold wind blowing.  It blows through my coat and chills my back.  But the cold wind is good.

When it is very cold outside, it’s better for storing food.  I don’t need a refrigerator.  Instead, I can just keep my food in an open box outside.  In the Summer I would only buy meat for one day at a time, but in the Winter I can keep many days worth of meat in my truck.

Another reason to appreciate the cold wind is that it makes my cheeks red.  I noticed it recently when I looked at myself in the mirror.  My cheeks have had a more healthy-looking color since the weather became cold.  Maybe it’s because my body is working to stay warm.  I like it!  I think it looks healthy and attractive this way, like natural makeup.

I turn my body towards the Sun so I can absorb more of its warmth.  I can appreciate the good things I have.
