IV. Conclusion
If you think your life cycle is weird, at least you’re not a periodical cicada. Their life cycle is really weird.
If you were a periodical cicada, you’d spend 99.5% of your life as an underground nymph. You’d have big front legs that are good at digging. You’d eat the sap of tree roots.
In the Spring of your 13th or 17th year, you’d emerge from the soil and shed your exoskeleton . In your adult form, you could fly and cling to trees. Males would sing to attract females, and females would lay their eggs in tree bark. You’d die a few weeks later, not long after you’d emerged.
I’m not saying your life cycle isn’t weird too. I’m just saying that no matter how weird yours may be, there is always someone else with a weirder life cycle.
